March 8th 2010 Chris Satchwell - Why buy when you can hire? Our speaker is Chris Satchwell, Commercial Director of Sunsail World Wide Sailing. Chris shares a 32' in the Solent and has an 18' day sailor on Hayling Island. This talk maybe particularly appropriate for the members who wish to charter and take a yacht to the Club’s summer gathering at Cowes in June.

 

April 12th 2010 Annual General Meeting. Please contact Bob Dyer to add agenda items. Followed by Mike Coombes – Collecting our new boat. Mike and Barbara purchased an Island Packet 350 in May. The yacht was in the Harbour at Watchet in Somerset – 400 miles from their mooring in Gosport. The estimated time for delivery was four to five days. Due to unexpected severe weather it took eleven!

 

May 10th 2010 Roger Shaw - Lessons learned as a Skipper over 20,000 miles.

Roger Shaw is Commodore of Henley Offshore Group. He has sailed 20,000 miles in the Baltic, South Coast, USA and recently a 3 year cruise from Plymouth to Corfu.
His subjects will cover the notion of being a 'Nanny Skipper' ,avoiding Pirates off Lanzarotte, putting diesel into the holding tank for 8 weeks, avoiding a collision with a US submarine in dense fog. some perils of chartering and the benefits of Crewseekers to get extra cheap sailing anywhere in the world.
